Movie Mania !

I’m a big movie freak and have pretty much spent all my money and free time on watching movies these days surprisingly, there have been more good movies than bad ones!

Here’s my review which you may or may not find helpful:

Still in Movie Theaters:

  • UP - I’m not a big fan of cartoons, but this plot was like an Adult’s story book. The characters were in depth and extremely likable. Never in a million years would I have though of such a dynamic between a grump old man and a fat little boy would be so promising. There were issues that were very real (such as death, loss, sorrow and pain) but also discovery, hope, joy and lots of imagination. It was witty, smart and unlike other cartoons, gave a real meaning to values.

A must see for any ages. My Verdict? A+

  • The Hangover - I’m usually not a fan of really stupid funny and raunchy movies, but this one is a definite exception! Lots of adult humor, naked testicles and most importantly, lots of laughs! I love how all the characters are fresh and new. The plot made sense and the plot unraveled like a great drunken escapade.

A great hangover! My Verdict? B+

  • The Proposal - Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Reynolds! He has the best puppy dog eyes ever as his character is whipped slash to the max by Sandra Bullet’s bitchy character. Both characters are extremely lovable and there are many great funny and awkward moments. One of my top favorite chick flicks of all time!

A perfect girl’s night flick! My Verdict? B

ON DVD:

  • Seven - Made in the 1990’s its a suspense/thriller that features a murderer on a death spree campaigning the seven deadly sins. There are very many stomach churning murder scene and younger Brad Pitt gives his usual charismatic performance. An interesting plot and well written story, it was just not my cup of tea because I simply didn’t like the ending (which gave away the huge twist). Too dreary and dark of a movie with no real satisfaction.

This movie itself is the sin. My Verdict? C+

A must see for any ages. My Verdict? B+

  • The International - Clive Owen is a great actor and this story dwindles on some serious international political issues that give light to some the shady stories behind monetary banking and finance. However, the story itself was too dramatic, unrealistic and slow for me to appreciate any of its plot. It’s a well written movie though and great for people who appreciate movies with depth about the financial institution.

A must see for bankers? My Verdict? C-

  • Fired Up - Bad movie, dry and the two main actors are ridiculous. I can’t even remember half the movie and I kept waiting till the end of the movie for something funny to come up. It sucks that I had to rent and pay a late fee for this one!

    Skip it. My Verdict? F

The Roof is On Fire …And NO it’s NOT the lyrics.

Jun 11, 2009 Author: Kailyn | Filed under: Life Moments

Might as well blog about it and share some information I learned.
I had a very “eventful” early morning today to say the very least.

( Sorry if the content doesn’t make much sense, but I’m trying to remember what I can recall. )

Firstly, I was waken up by several fire truck sirens and a very strange and LOUD crackling noise.

I was hesitant to roll out of bed, but (tip#1) if you ever hear sirens not driving away, but stopping short -LOOK OUT THE WINDOW!

That’s exactly what I did and I saw this MASSIVE amount of smoke in the direction of our local gas station. Immediate panicking, I ran downstairs, yelling for everyone to get out.

Since it was a weekday, I wasn’t sure who was home and who was not. However, they heard me run around like a mad person, and we jumped into the car and we brought along our three dogs leaving behind the puppies until we could further examined the situation. =(

Driving across the road, we saw that there was a massive fire burning away at all those newly developed townhouses. All 5 or 6 on fire, in addition, there were also huge specks of burning wood flying around the air.

The only thing I grabbed was my cellphone, which I was able to take some pictures.

No thinking much of it and assuming it was under control, we drove back home
until we noticed that across the road (like a 5 minute walk across) another house was also on fire!

We made another round about (due to the traffic and police cars + fire trucks) and that’s when I nearly toppled over.

(CLOSED OFF … THIS IS WHAT I saw !)

Trying to make a left into our street, we noticed that yet ANOTHER house was on fire and this time it was on MY STREET and just 1 house down from my home. Fearing the worst (since I saw the 5 townhouses burning together) I thought our house was also on fire.

Our street was closed up (except for residents) and my dad (in a state of shocked) couldn’t even drive or park properly. My aunt and him ran down to see if they could save anything (AKA PUPPIES), while I stayed in the car to look after the pets. Fearing the worst, I got out of the car to watch my neighbor’s house burn and burn until their entire roof collapse.

( Two door down to us. =( )

Luckily, they were able to control the fire before it spread further down wind. Apparently, the couple inside didn’t even know their house was on fire and had to be called out! In all this chaos, my aunt had managed to round up the puppies and our Rottie puppy whom had been rescued and made his way into a cop’s car (where he took pee inside! Sorry officer!)

Standing in front of our house, we learned that one of our neighbors had actually put out our roof for us! Using our own garden hose, he had seen a fleck of burning chip land in FRONT of our roof and start to catch on fire. Thanks to his quick thinking and right timing, he prevented our house from being destroyed.

(My House!)

Tip#2 Specks of burning wood in the surrounding air will cause ceder roofs to catch on fire so keep a look out. Tip#3 On a hot and dry summer day, place your summer hose visible on the front lawn in case of any emergencies.

(My next door neighbor’s home)

(Fire Trucks)

According to news reports, FLOATING EMBERS from THREE BLOCKS away lit 4 houses on fire on our street.

It sucks, but we are very lucky that nobody got hurt and neighbors were there to support one another.

Also another BIG Thank-You for friends, fire fighters, police and the community for coming over to help us out!

So Cute, I could just Eat Him Up!

Meet Bubbles!!!

The only child from one of our females. He doesn’t get along with the other puppies as much because he prefers to be on his own corner playing by himself. (Aka: Only child syndrome as observed in playgrounds with children.)

But boy, is he CUTE!

He has all the elements that mother nature gives to puppies to make them look darn right cute.

  • Baby Fat everywhere
  • Four Big Paws and Short Legs
  • Floppy Ears
  • Button Nose
  • Soft Puppy Fur
  • and a Big Head.

Here’s his very own YouTube Video:

He doesn’t do very much, but he knows he’s tugging at all the right heart strings.

More of an action shot!

And yes this little boy is available for sale to a very loving home.

Good Old Fashion BBQ

Jun 2, 2009 Author: Kailyn | Filed under: Food

On Sunday, we went over to our family friend’s house and had a good old fashion BBQ! An indicator in Vancouver that summer has arrived!

We had a lot of scrumptious food, merry people and a great time!
Special Thanks to Aunty Selena for preparing everything!

Although, I was running around with a camera in my hand, I just realized I missed taking pictures of the korean bbq beef, oyster, portabella mushroom, coconut juice (some with a shot of tequila), smoked salmon salad, prawns wrapped in bacon and fruit punch. I was too busy eatting and everything was gone before I had a chance to finish my plate and whip out my camera!

I never had S’Mores before, so I was determined to make one!

We tried BBQing Marshmallows, but that didn’t work because we needed direct heat.

So, we did it over an open gas stove.
Lighting the tip of our skewer tips on fire a few times.

Then success, we made a S’More!

Melted marshmallow and chocolate smooshed inbetween two graham crackers.
It was like biting into heaven.

I also decided to experiment and take advantage of the grill and do BBQ S’Mores!
FIVE at a time.

It turned out really awesome. OOey gooey and ridiculously good. The crisp graham crackers cooked gave a nice biscuit-y aroma while the chocolate and marshmallow just complimented each together.

Just thinking about yesterday, makes me hungry all over again!

Some of my favorite entries from a random browsing of fmylife

*FML = Fuck My Life

  • Today, my boss called me into his office to show me the web site of a potential business partner. When he began to type ‘virginia’ into google, it auto-completed his search with his recent search for ‘virgin boy assholes’. I have to go on business trip with him tomorrow. I’m a young guy. FML
  • Today, I was sitting in class and I fell asleep during the lesson. I was wearing sweatpants and had an erection. My teacher came up to me and grabbed my penis. She thought it was my phone. FML

  • Today, I went to the movies with some girlfriends. The guy behind us was making these pervy, heavy breathing noises, so we threw some popcorn at him. When the movie finished, we saw him in a wheelchair - with a breathing tube sticking out of his neck. FML
  • Today, was my wedding night. We had decided to wait until marriage to have sex. When I undressed and smiled at my new wife, she burst into tears and cried, “please don’t make me do this.” FML
  • Today, I went to the Verizon because my phone was broken. It hadn’t rang in 3 weeks. I hadn’t gotten any text messages either. So, I got to the store they check out my phone. They told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my phone. No one had called me in 3 weeks. Then they charged me $30. FML

It happens to the best of us because this world is a very funny funny place to be.

Public Transportation - Just had to Share

May 28, 2009 Author: Kailyn | Filed under: Life Moments

I took the Skytrain today to my Surrey campus today and on one of my stops, this huge and (what I personally thought to be) SCARY looking guy walks into the train.

I would decribed him to the police as the following:

- He was tall about 6″3
- Bald (with a nice shine)
- Wore a t-shirt (I think it was white)
- Pair of light blue jeans
- With a thick metal chain hanging from the back pocket (I heard a THUD when it hit the pole)
- Had a large tattoo on his left forearm

The closer he came to my side of the train, the more I eye balled him (behind my black sunglasses of course).

Then I realize he wasn’t 100% scary … but quite attractive.

Good looking almost, perhaps … yes, definitely had a little something something.

Yet he was still scary, but alluring? Definitely …

Boy was I conflicted. Has this happened to anyone else ? Or is it just me?

Then he walked off the same station as me and was gone.

I’m very observant you know.

And this entry has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but I just thought I share my nutjob-thought of the day!

My mind works in mysterious ways.

About ME

I just realized I never had a page to introduce myself!

I’ve put together page About Me, but I was distracted by the phone in the middle of writing so my train of thought went way.

And I’m also so hungry right now for dinner, I can’t multitask.

Anyways, girls and guys, if you haven’t gotten Twitter yet … just do it … now.

Or you’ll risk (in marketing term) being a “late adopter” and not much of an “innovator”.

You know you’ll eventually give in (like MSN, Facebook, etc), so don’t get stuck being *gasp* boring.

Add me and I’ll add you so I can stalk you to my heart content.

Would You Sell Your Baby -if the Price was Right?

May 26, 2009 Author: Kailyn | Filed under: Life Moments

I had one of those many random conversation in the car and this particular one came about from watching the premier of Kate & Jon Plus 8 (which by the way I love, love, love the show) .

Anyways, it somehow envolved and morphed into this question of mine,

Me: ” Would you sell your child for a billion dollars?

He: ” ONE Billion Dollars?!

Me: ” Yes, ONE BILLION.

He: ” Yeah, if it’s a BILLION dollars.

Me: ” Oh okay … well what if it’s not a billion, what is the minimum price tag it would take to sell your own child?

He: ” Probably 5 Million Dollars.

Me: ” Really? You would sell, I guess its easier when they’re really young like a baby.

He: ” Yeah, I would think of it as a sperm donation … but HATCHED.

*i died laughing out loud*

So there you have it folks, if anyone is looking for a sperm doner right now … ask the clinic or doner if it comes hatched! =D

Sushi Overload *Throws up Seaweed*

May 22, 2009 Author: Kailyn | Filed under: Food

I totally forgot to take pictures, but it was such a sight.

Yesterday, I made an honest mistake of ordering way too much sushi.

My father called me last night to order sushi for dinner and we made a list that would satisfy all 7 of us.

In addition, I asked the waitress on the other end of the phone for a “PARTY Tray” …. she asked me LARGE OR SMALL … I said LARGE because I wanted a huge PLATE for us to stack our sushi, so we didn’t have to use individiual boxes. (They had offered it before in the past)

Big MISTAKE.

Later we found out, that a LARGE Party Tray meant $41 worth of sushi … at a resturant that was known for large portions for a good price. In addition to my list and the party tray, my dad ordered his own favorites.

$114 later, my dad brought home about 20 - 23 rolls -which is about 100 - 140 individual pieces of rolled up rice wrapped in chicken, sushi, sashimi, unagi, cucumber, roes, etc.

You name it, we had it.

He wasn’t happy at all and I wasn’t happy, believe it or not -I’m not a big fan of sushi, but I made darn sure I ate my way out.

I’m not going to touch another piece of roll for an incredible long time.

Impulse to Pie!

May 21, 2009 Author: Kailyn | Filed under: CookBook

I don’t take stress really well because I act on impulse.

If I have something stirring in the thick head of mine, I have to execute it or I think about it constantly. In my entrepreneur class, we have to start our own business in a group of 4 -for the semester. So far, we have very limited plausible ideas and I’m trying to conjure up a plan….with this brainstorming, I wake up thinking about, I eat thinking about it, I got to sleep thinking about it. The only way I could stop thinking about it is by occupying myself with something else. Another project of some sort!

People say its a good trait to constantly want new ideas, but I honestly don’t have much to show for it or set up my level of satisfaction and achievement way too high. Maybe in the future, I’ll strike gold with this psychotic trait of mine.

Anyways back to me acting on impulse, on Monday night I was watching Waitress (fab movie) and the main character played by Keri Russel was really good at making pies. She invents them in her head and ties them to her life. The movie featured so many spectacular pies that the very next day, I drove to the mall and spent an hour getting ingredients for baking my own pie. I’m Crazy, YES. Insane, YES. Pie, any Good? YES!

Apple Chocolate Chip Pie

Inspired by Apple Crumb Pie
Yields: About Two 9″ Pies

*Following the original recipe, I made it way too sweet. Like toothache sweet, so the new revision has a lot less sugar!
** You could also find a pie crust recipe and make the zigzags on the top, but I was running short of time!

INGREDIENTS
1 (9 inch) pie shell (I bought mine premade)
6 small apples
1/4 or 1/2 cup white sugar (1/4 if you like it less sweet)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (I skipped it, but you should add it!)
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (I skipped it, but you should add it!)
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
1/2 cup milk or bittersweet chocolate chips (optional, but makes it really good!)
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter

DIRECTIONS

1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Place sliced apples in a large bowl. Sprinkle with lemon juice if desired.

In a small bowl, mix together white sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle mixture over apples. Toss until apples are evenly coated. Stir in raisins and chocolate chips if desired.

2) Spoon mixture into pastry shell.

3) In a small bowl mix together 1/2 cup flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter or margarine until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle mixture over apple filling. Cover top loosely with aluminum foil.

4) Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 25 to 30 minutes, until top is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.

ENJOY! It tastes good!
